Modélisation morphodynamique d'une embouchure tidale : Application aux Passes d'entrée du Bassin d'Arcachon ArchiMer

The Arcachon tidal inlet exhibits a particularly active morphology due to strong tidal currents and rough wave conditions. During the past 300 years, maximum and minimum extents of the Cap Ferret sand spit have resulted in a difference of 8 km while two channels have alternatively allowed circulation between the lagoon and the ocean. A bidimensional horizontal morphodynarnic model was developed in order to simulate the system evolution under tidal forcing alone or under combined tide and wave action. Modelling at a scale of decades requires the definition of mean annual wave and tide conditions which are representative with respect to sediment transport. The intertidal flats in the Arcachon lagoon are extensively colonized by seagrass meadows of Zostera noltii. The last ten years these meadows experienced a drastic regression of their surface area. Understanding the impact of seagrass on hydrodynamics and sediment dynamics is required to anticipate the consequences of meadows regression on the sediment dynamics of the Arcachon lagoon. Flume experiments with natural seagrass highlighted a strong velocity attenuation associated with a turbulence increase near the bed within seagrass canopies. An increase in sediment protection from erosion and in deposition fluxes related to the seagrass growth was found. Spatial and temporal variability of CO2 fluxes at the sediment-air interface in a tidal flat of a temperate lagoon (arcachon bay, France) ArchiMer

This study aimed to explore the spatial and temporal variability of benthic metabolism in a temperate mesotidal lagoon. This was achieved by measuring fluxes of CO2 in static chambers during emersion, both under light and dark conditions. Three sample sites were selected according to their tidal level (upper or mid), their sediment type (sand or mud) and the presence/absence of the seagrass Zostera noltei. The three sites were investigated at three seasons (end of winter, spring and beginning of autumn). At each site and each season, three benthic chambers were used simultaneously in successive incubations over the emersion period.
